Did you know that one Italian guy in the 13th century travelled to China, lived there for 24 years, wrote a book, and thus uncovered the East for the West, what was his name? Polo, Marco Polo.
Or that one British guy named Montague Dawson made a ship in the storm look like you are on the deck, and going to slip off unless you hold on tight?
Or.. hm, let me think about that. Oh, that an American guy in the 1930s travelled to Kuta beach in Bali and discovered surfing was possible there. A hero, we don’t even know his name. Like many other names that vanished in history.

It all began in the African caves where prehistoric folks painted prey run in the fields.
Then there were pharaohs’ masks in Egypt, athletes in Greece, Chinese mythological dragons and the invention of the wheel in Mesopotamia. [it’s all about History]
Then there go ancient Aztec jewellery, Australian aboriginal art, Russian wooden icons and Madonnas of the Italian Renaissance. That all was before Grimms’ fairy tales with illustrations and life-size portraits of royalty. It was before the Internet and the websites about everything.
Now, if you’re looking for a place to surf, you’ll probably consider Bali as the most popular destination, and Bob Koke was the one to prove it possible back in the 1930s.
It makes me think it’s okay to know just enough to want to learn more, that’s basically what we’re here about. A little bit of art, food and geography wrapped in a #travel cover. People, places, with a trifle of history.
